Think about this: No matter where you go in a building, your perfect temperature is set perfectly for where you are.  This energy saving alternative to heating entire buildings, was dreamed up by MIT researchers that have developed the “Local Warming” system that creates personal climates around individuals. The system uses WiFi-based motional tracking and personal climate around occupants of a building. No more heating empty offices, homes, or empty building space. This is also an exciting new development for architects, construction firms and engineers.

After the WiFi system picks up the information on the individual, it is then transmitted in real time to an array of dynamic heating elements located in a grid near the ceiling. Each element has a servo-motor that changes direction, a bulb to generate infrared radiation, a cold mirror, and other optics to create focused beams of heat. Infrared heat gives spotlights of warmth centered on the people from only a few meters away, giving the right temperature desired and increasing overall energy efficiency.
